This Polish Army Tanker’s shoulder patch was worn by soldiers serving in its armoured divisions, during the Cold War.

The emblem refers to the Polish hussars, which in the 16th and 17th centuries were the best heavy cavalry in the world. Very few units were able to resist the charge of these very agile, horsemen armed with long lances. Their typical tactic was to charge several times at and through the enemy unit, until it breaks. Polish 1st Armoured Division, which fought during WW2 alongside British and American forces in France, Belgium, Netherlands and north-western Germany also used a similar emblem.
